  • Blumenthal, David. Doctors and drug companies. N Engl J Med 2004;351(18):1885-1890.
    The most salient of Blumenthal's many editorials, this article summarizes the last decade of physician-pharmaceutical interactions and cites the numbers we've come to know and love: The drug industry spent 33% of revenues on "selling adn administration" in 2002, which is between $12 and $15 billion, or $8,000 to $15,000 per physician.
  • Studdert, David M., Michelle M. Mello, and Troyen A. Brennan. Financial conflicts of interest in physicians' relationships with the pharmaceutical industry -- self-regulation in the shadow of federal prosecution. N Engl J Med 2004;351(18):1891-1900.
    Studdert et al summarize the development of law governing physician-industry relations and include a table summarizing recent conflict-of-interest guidelines from PhRMA, AMA, ACCME, ACP, and OIG.
