I'm a first year resident in internal medicine at Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon. We're privileged to have a program that is relatively free of physician-directed pharmaceutical marketing. A committee selects the drugs in our clinic sample closet after a stringent evaluation of medical efficacy and cost-effectiveness. Our noon conferences are not drug-subsidized, and the internal medicine department buys our lunches.
